Premise
Coloured is a short story where you have lost your senses and wakes up on a giant cloud in the sky and it's your objective to bring back the three primary colours back to the world but you don't know why your doing it or why your here. The story is written in second person where a narrator is giving you a visual and auditory description of the world.
Why did I write this story?
I wanted to challenge myself creating a fiction story with the twist of being written in second person which is rarely used for this type of genre. I was inspired to write this story by a 3D platformer I created in two weeks back in November 2021. The plot and world I wrote for this game was really cool and I wanted to explore it through a narrative medium.

Part 1: You Lost / Black & White
What does it mean to lose? To see a world in black and white. A sea of monotone clouds that surround your peripheral. Looking down, white overwhelms your vision. Thrown off guard, you take one small step. As sure as you were that falling was inevitable, you keep standing. You're weightless. You feel nothing. No sounds enter your drums. Silence. Tranquillity. Glancing at your body, there are black stains imprinted on your attire. The fabric is stiff in those areas, must be some sort of liquid, most likely water. Looking around, There's a path engraved on the clouds you stand upon, nothing else to do but follow, still in awe of the phenomenon, you proceed slowly but with an elated look drawn across your face like a child discovering a cool, hidden secret no one else knows. There off in the far distance, you spy a pedestal in the shape of a raindrop, it seems to be holding a button. A blue button. You head towards this out of place blue button but there’s a gap between the end of the cloud you are standing on and the button. The button is on a slight diagonal angle above you. How will you reach it? You take a step forward just to check if there's any hidden foothold, to your surprise a small cloud reveals itself. More small clouds appear every step you take. Every step you take a foothold behind you disappears. Looking down into the abyss of the fragmented black & white sky, a shiver trickles down your spine, you're not scared of falling to your death, instead you're scared of being lost, being isolated, being consumed by this sublime sky. Finally you arrive at the blue button, you linger for a moment, but with immense hesitation you push it.

Part 2 : You Heard / Blue
Tingling sensations arrive on your exposed hands. Hints of coldness spark throughout your body. Above you is a swamp of tar black clouds, below lies a blissful sea of white. Miraculous azure puddles ripple below your steps. The colour blue is back into your world. Opening your ears, you hear the rhythmic dropping of rain calming you, almost like you're in your mothers embrace again with no worries to cloud your soul. Glancing again at your attire, the black stains have yet to disappear. What could it be? Remnants of puddles are scattered around the steamy ground you walk upon. There's a wall on your right. A lonely wall, the only wall within eyeshot. It seems to be made up of small clouds that form as a solid wall. It's a blank white wall but you feel as if you can read it. Your clouded pupils examine it but there is nothing to read. Staring into your abyssal eyelids, the drums within your ears hear a voice. The Voice sounds like everyone but no-one all at once. Who could it be? “seven… seven… seven….” Why is the number 7 so important? Light enters your iris, the white wall isn't there anymore, where could it be? Over the horizon, beholds a swirling white circle, its rays are desperately trying to break through the tar black clouds above. One ray from above the swamp makes it through, its landing zone highlights a crooked pedestal in the shape of a sunflower. Similar to the one from before but the surface of the button is yellow. Pulsating vibrations wisp through the air, beckoning you to harvest the ripened seed and bring your sun to flourish the world. To reach the sunflower you must traverse seven moving platforms, each moving faster than the other. Bracing your legs, bending your knees, you prepare for lift-off, making the jump to the first platform, you get a sense for the speed of the moving cloud you land on. Each cloud you jump to, the faster the next one moves, eventually your ears behold the source of the vibrations. You instinctively raise your hands to press the yellow button, with a slight amount of hesitation you press it.

Part 3 : You Felt / Yellow
Scorched and flourished, the rays completely pierce the swamp of tar that gated their holy sun. The soul within the heart tingles, feeling rejuvenated, warmth has consumed the world. Vocal chords are finally able to strum again but what is there for you to say? Step by step, at a leisurely pace, you continue down the clouds,  until your curiosity grinds you to a halt as you gaze down below where a harp engraved with the word Gosia lies on the path, compelled, you kneel and embrace the strings. An oasis of serenity surrounds your senses, you don't possess the knowledge of plucking a harp. How do you play it, can you even play it? You question yourself. Now that the rain has stopped, the sound of silence permeates the air, you glare towards the sky, a rainbow blooms yet there is still one primary colour missing. Through the lonely off-white clouds, shadowed thorns start to form. The ebony thorns seep out a corrosive liquid of pure abyssal black that distingrates every cloud it comes in contact with. Fear takes control of you as they make their way closer to the bed of clouds you briefly rest on, you embrace the harp once again. Rushing down the path with the harp clutched firmly within the grasp of your arms, an invisible barrier blocks your way forward. Confused, you look around, your eyes land ahead of you where you spy a metal gate. The gothic architecture of the structure gave it an omnipotent aura, the sublime nature of the gate averted your eyes from a revelation, the final button sat in front of the gate. It is red. You look at your eyelids searching for an answer to this barrier, The Voice comes back. “Pearl…Play” A harmonic melody escapes the strings from Gosia, glancing backwards you see the thorns start to disappear, the clouds they erased have come back, the invisible barrier vanishes, the melody fades away, you breathe in and Gosia leaves you. You make your way to the last button, without any hesitation you push bracing for what comes next.

Part 4 : You Saw / Red

What does it mean to see? To see a world, coloured, with all its beauty and mystery. Why was it so important to colour in your empty world? You gaze at your heart, your eyesight lingers there, ba dum, ba dum, ba dum, your heart rate rises rapidly, liquid oozes out the stained garments you cover yourself with. Blood. You don't feel any pain. Is it yours? Is it someone else? What happened? What did you do? How can you live with what you’ve done? Do you feel no shame? No remorse? Are you even human? All these questions corrupt your mind, you don’t know what's real or not anymore. What are all these clouds for anyway? Why are you the only one here? Is this your judgement, your salvation or your punishment? A gap in the clouds draws a line between you and the gate ahead of the red button. The gate with its omnipotent aura, welcomes you, you feel at home the closer you get to it. However the gap is too big to cross. How will you make your way across? You close your eyes hoping The Voice will come back to guide. Nothing enters your drums. You've lost your guardian angel. A deep blood storm devours the sky below the gap. Shades of red clash against each other like the violent waves of a storm. With no way to progress, you find yourself lost, you hear nothing, silence absorbs the clouds, you feel nothing, the swamp tar has covered the holy sun, all you see before you is… Red. Take the leap of faith. Who knows what lies down there. Maybe it's peace, maybe it's violence. Go for it, even if it's the last thing you do. It's time for you to be lost, isolated, consumed by this sublime sky, you linger for a moment, but with immense hesitation you leap.

“Ah, at last, you saw red”
